Know What You're Wearing

Materials Guide

A plain-English guide to the finishes and materials used across Nolima — what they are, how they wear, and how to keep them beautiful.

The materials we use

Gold-plated

A layer of real gold bonded over a quality base metal — the look and warmth of gold at an accessible price. Gold plating is what gives our gold-tone pieces their rich colour. Keep it away from water, perfume and chemicals and it stays beautiful for years; see the Jewellery Care Guide for the small habits that matter.

Silver-finish

Silver-toned plating with a cool, crisp look that pairs with everything. Care is the same as gold plating: keep it dry, put it on last, store it apart from other pieces. Silver-finish can brighten back up with a gentle buff from a soft, dry jewellery cloth.

Rose gold-plated

Gold plating blended with a higher copper content for its warm blush tone. It flatters every skin tone and sits beautifully between gold and silver pieces in a stacked look. Same care rule as all plated finishes: water and chemicals are the enemy.

Stainless steel

A durable, water-resistant base metal used in some pieces — tougher than plated base metals and happier with an active life. It won't tarnish the way plated base metals can, though the finish still deserves the same gentle care to stay at its best.

Simulated stones & crystals

Many of our pieces are set with simulated stones and crystals — pavé settings, cubic zirconia-style sparkles and coloured stones. They're chosen for brilliance and colour consistency, and they're set by the brands we carry, not glued-on afterthoughts. Clean them gently (see care guide) and they keep their sparkle.

Which finish should you choose?

Finish Look Best for
Gold-plated Warm, classic, rich Everyday gold-tone stacking; the vintage-inspired look
Silver-finish Cool, crisp, modern Minimalist pieces; cooler-toned wardrobes
Rose gold-plated Soft, warm, blush Romantic pieces; mixing with both gold and silver
Stainless steel Sleek, durable Low-fuss everyday wear; water-prone moments

Can't decide? Gold-tone remains our most popular finish — it photographs beautifully and suits nearly every skin tone.

A word about plated jewellery

Plated finishes are real gold or silver-tone layers, but they are not solid precious metal — that's exactly what keeps Nolima prices friendly. Treated well, plating wears gracefully; treated carelessly (swimming, spraying, sleeping in it), it dulls faster. Every product page lists the materials of that piece, and our Jewellery Care Guide keeps the maintenance simple.

Sensitive skin? Everyone's skin is different. If you know you react to certain metals, stainless steel pieces are the most forgiving choice, and we recommend reading the materials line on each product page before ordering.

Questions about a specific piece?

Every product page lists what that piece is made of. If you'd like more detail before ordering, contact us with the product name and we'll tell you everything we know.
